The Zone 18 Embassy is an organization that works in zone 18 of Guatemala City. This area is known for being dangerous and controlled by warrings gangs. Big companies won't consider the people of zone 18 for work, because of the fear they have ties to gangs. The zone 18 Embassy establishes partnerships with big companies to give these people an opportunity to interview. Even though this program has been able to find hundreds of jobs for men, only 10% of women have been able to find one - 90% of women still aren't hired, even though they are qualified. Unmarked Streets works with these women to give them income and training while they continue searching for work, bringing them workshops, opportunities and self-confidence.
Building Guate is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the least favored communities of Guatemala, giving them the means to build better houses, to improve their health and education and to further improve the lives of the communities!
Building Guate works in a community that lives within one of the largest garbage dumps in Guatemala. They run a soup kitchen to provide people with healthy meals, and a school to get the kids out of the dump and into a classroom. We partner with Building Guate to provide jewelry making workshops to the women living and working in the dump, to provide them with a better opportunity to support themselves and their families.
